Omenia pusa pe linguri |
Sympathy and spoons |
Cine
autohtona (rozeta solara, funia, arborele vietii, siluete antropomorfe stilizate si
evocate in posturi hazlii, linia, punctul, dintele de lup, reprezentari avimorfe, in
Asemenea Silviei Cozminca, Ioan Laza si-a regasit
In ultima vreme a inceput sa cutreiere Occidentul, impresionand si acolo prin capacitatea
conservarea mestesugului practicat). |
People
who know Lica Laza know that he represents kindness itself. He is a merry, kind-hearted
fellow and such qualities which seem to come from some divine recess should be examples to
follow for the younger members of AMPM. He is capable of keeping his temper, of easing
tension with a joke coming from his good heart, his presence being invigorating and
welcomed everywhere.
Why did I mention these traits? Well, they are all
intrinsically related with his creation, it seems that the wood is cut easier by the edged
tools when such tools are handled by artisans like Lica Laza. Among the traits which can
be found on the design spoons tails, on the bellows, on the icon supports, on the
salt-cellars or ornamental supports carefully carved by the artisan from Iasi are:
kindness, ancestral humor and measure. In terms of ornamental motives which often become
real ornamental ensembles, the artisan draws his inspiration from the rich aboriginal
ornamental tradition (the solar rosette, the rope, the tree of life, stylized
anthropomorphous forms which are evoked in comical situations, the line, the point, the
wolf tooth, avimorphous representations, and among them the cock which is the herald of
good and so on).
Like Silvia Cozmīnca, Ioan Laza re discovered his
passion for wood carving only after he retired; he transformed the kitchen of his
apartment in Alexandru cel Bun quarter into a working shop, while the hall and the living
room are organized as a real museum; here are displayed many and valuable works
(especially icons painted on wood) of art belonging to great artists from Iasi (Ioan
Gānju, Constantin Tofan, Enio Bartos, Dragos Patrascu, Ion Balau out of the
latters creation we mention the series La grāu, La cānepa si Amintiri din copilarie,
series which deserve to be part of an exhibition) next to whom he had the honor of being.
That is, he is also a great collector,
collecting not only objects manufactured by him, but especially objects belonging to
personalities he had the occasion to meet.
During the last years he started to explore the
Occident, managing to impress there too with his ability of approaching people. His
inclination towards the authentic traditional values that he openly confesses when it
comes to innovation (Within the limits of tradition) or when he talks about himself
(Passion and the wish to do better in order to preserve the practiced handicraft) is
encouraging for the other people. |
